Dave hails originally from the North of England where, as part of the music scene in the Harrogate area, he co-founded an electro-acoustic trio with his brother Ian Lightfoot and local bassist Jeff Whiley in 2001. Stone The Crows covered mainly 60's and 70's rock & pop covers and although short lived was a rewarding period that helped cement a love of live music, and a refined live performance. In 2002 Dave and Ian decided to move away from mainstream rock to form SevenWorlds, paying tribute to Neil and Tim Finn's song writing talents as Crowded House and their various solo projects. This period further developed Dave's vocal styles, and after a period of regular gigging at intimate venues, culminated in the duo appearing at Harrogate's International Conference Centre in aid of local charities. 2004 saw a change in musical direction for Dave, when he joined Rob Shaw, Pete Holmes, brother Ian again, and Chuck McLaughlin to form Robberz Dog, a five piece rock band covering a wide range of classic rock and blues standards, up to modern day alternative rock covers. This was a hugely successful and rewarding period that saw the band play a wide range of venues around the North of England. In 2009 Dave immigrated to New Zealand, and immediately started to look to form a new band. Through the Weekend Warriors scheme, he teamed up with Rob Kennedy, Richard Woods, Jordan Setters, Lyndon Barraclough and Martyn Galea to form 4th Band Up. This resulted in two successful Weekend Warriors appearances at San Francisco Bath House, and a rewarding contribution to the Wellington Music Challenge for Christchurch charity weekend. In May 2011, Dave joined Itchycoo Park, bringing a slightly rockier vocal style to the set, whilst retaining the band's classic 60's and 70's sound. Dave's musical influences are varied, but are mainly classic British rock bands such as Bad Company, Free, Thin Lizzy, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and UFO, to modern progressive rock bands such as Porcupine Tree, The Pineapple Thief, Marillion, DreamTheater and Riverside.
